Papers, 1797-1959.

Papers containing letters, research notes, diaries, receipts, photographs, printed materials, family histories and biographies on Harris. The bulk of this collection contains Harris' correspondence with other prominent naturalists, his research notes and diaries from trips on the Missouri River and to Florida, and information concerning the introduction of the Percheron draft horse to the United States. The remainder of the collection consists of family records, and photographs, including ambrotypes of family members, letters to Harris' wife Mary Ustick Harris, a daguerreotype of Edward Harris, the estate papers of Edward Harris I (1754-1822) and some financial records. There are also several examples of Indian clothing and other articles collected by Edward Harris from his western trip that are located in ADAH's museum collections.
